KPHL staff to study in prestigious program

Two Papua New Guineans have been accepted to study for world class masters degree programs in Spain next year.

Petroluem Engineer, Zachariah Yakap, and Geologist, Elliona Maso, from Kumul Petroluem Holdings Limited (KPHL)have been selected out of hundreds of applicants around the world to study at the Centro de Formacion de Repsol, Madrid.

The prestigious Masters Programs in Oil and Gas Exploration is sponsored by Repsol, South Africa’s largest oil company.

KPHL Managing Director, Wapu Sonk, thanked Repsol for sponsoring both staff of the organization saying it is in line with KPHL’s strategy of building the Kumul Petroluem Academy.

“Kumul would like to thank Repsol for coming on board in human resource development (and) helping Kumul build the skills that’s necessary to push forward and drive our industry going forward in many years to come,” he said.

Repsol has been present in PNG since May 2015 following its acquisition of Talisman Energy.

Shortly after this Repsol’s E&P Executive Managing Director, Luis Cabra, visited PNG and met Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, where he offered the opportunity for KPHL staff to attend the Masters Degree in Oil and Gas Exploration and Production in Repsol campus in Spain.

Chief Country Representative for Repsol in PNG, David Lester, said this afternoon that Repsol was now delivering on that promise.

“We look forward to watching their careers develop and progress when they get back,” says Lester.

Repsol has 12 discovered fields and 10 licenses with large onshore acreage in the unexplored Western Papua foreland Basin.

It is the operator of the PDL 10 Stanley Gas Field and also hold’s material interest in the PRL 21 Ketu/Elevala Gas Field.
