The shop in fact, was officially opened on Wednesday with Motuan knight and businessman Sir Dadi Mahuru Toka officially cutting the ribbon to mark its opening.
Supermarket owner Mohamed Abdul Wahed said he had been operating in the country since 1990. He said from humble beginnings 25 years ago he was happy to invite official and people to witness the opening of the new building and supermarket.
It was in fact a surprise Christmas present for the Konedobu locals who now don’t have to go all the way to shop in town or the waterfront.
He thanked business leaders and bankers ANZ Bank who he said had assisted him over the years to grow steadily. He also thanked Trukai Rice, Goodman Fielder, Seeto Kui, Cholai and many others too many to name.
“My company now operates two wholesales, two supermarkets, a clothing shop, service station, fast food outlet, bakery and a container trucking service,” Wahed told the crowd at the official opening on Wednesday.
He added that the opening of the Konedobu supermarket today for business is his third.
He said his company now employs close to 300 people and this number will increase once this supermarket and department store is fully operational.
Wahed said his company was a good corporate citizen of this country, paying taxes to NCDC and the National Government and meaningfully contributing to the economic growth of “this wonderful country.”
He acknowledge the presence of Sir Dadi who he said was a successful businessman in his own right and a senior member of the Hanuabada community who did the honours to cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the new supermarket.
Wahed thanked his Bangladeshi community in NCD in NCD for their support who had encouraged and strengthened him this far. But most of all, he thanked his “royal staff” of Desh Besh for being with him for through thick and thin.
Lastly he thanked all the people for attending the opening and wished one and all “a warm Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”
