Kewanu presents 2015 acquittals

Mendi District believes it is one that is outperforming other districts in the Highlands region in terms of rural development.

This was one of the statements made today following the handing over of acquittals of the districts 2015 District Support Improvement Program funds to the Department of Implementation & Rural Development.

Local MP, De Kewanu, presented the report to Acting Secretary of the Department, Paul Sai, late today (October 27) at Parliament House.

Kewanu says the 2015 Budget was stretched due to the drought & frost disaster which wiped out subsistence food sources.

However, he said they used what they little they had efficiently to continue service delivery projects.

He said so far they have maintained almost 90 km of roads, built five bailey bridges, one of which goes over the Lai River, eight foot bridges, four water supply projects, and built several classrooms.

“That’s an achievement for the district,” said Kewanu.

He said now it was for the Department to go and assess what it contained in the report.

When receiving the report, Acting Secretary Paul Sai, said the Mendi District Development Authority (DDA) is the only district that maintains constant dialogue with his Department.

He said he will take on the offer of the Member and visit the District to see what is on the ground and contained in the report.

“We will definitely come and see for ourselves,” Sai said.
