K69million for free education paid out

The Education Department says it has paid another batch of tuition fee free funds this week.

It says K69 million was paid into school bank accounts.

About 10, 063 schools and institutions should be able to use these funds in the coming weeks.

Acting Secretary Dr Uke Kombra says newly registered high schools will receive their funding next week.

Those schools and institutions banking with Bank South Pacific and Westpac banks will receive their payments this week while those that bank with ANZ will receive theirs next week.

This batch of payments brings in total TFF payments to schools to K567,144,700.00 out of the total appropriation of K605 million.

This leaves more than K37 million left to pay.

TFF were made in two payments. Payment 1 for Terms 1 and 2 and Payment 3 for Terms 3 and 4.

Kombra says this payment should be sufficient to keep our schools open and through Term 4 including the final examinations period.

“I call on all head teachers and principals of schools together with the school boards to spend the money wisely to ensure the examinations are conducted smoothly,” he says.
