K126,000 for POMRFL to stage grand finals

The grand finals this weekend cost the Port Moresby Rugby Football League K126,000.

POMRFL chairman Dr James Naipao confirmed yesterday that this cost will cover the prize money, preparations and venue hire.

Prize money for grand finalists is K64,000 and this will be awarded accordingly.

In the women’s match, Paga Panthers will take on defending champions Royals for the top prize of K7,000 and runner up will get K2,500.

In the U20 division, Brothers will play Souths for a top prize of K7,000 and second place will take home K2,500.

In the A Grade division, Hohola Flies will battle with Paga Panthers for the top prize of K20,000 while second place will settle with K2,500.

The minor premiers will see Kone Storms take home K7,000 for the A Grade, Lalokau FM Hawks will walk away with K3,000 for U20 men’s division and Royals will take away K3,000.

Grand final preparations cost K22,000 and the hiring of the venue, which includes security and other logistics, cost K40,000.

Naipao reminded clubs, players and supporters to enjoy the grand final day in a peaceful and trouble free occasion.

Naipao said clubs and players will be penalised according to the code of ethics document that was sworn and signed by each of the affiliate clubs, including the local referees association.

He added that ticket price is affordable at K10 grand stand and K5 outer stands.

He explained that the lower price is aimed to have as many city residents as possible to witness the new level of rugby league for POMRFL and experience the state-of-the-art facility.
