Jonah Lomu’s widow arrives to rousing welcome

Jonah Lomus widow, Nadene arrived in Papua New Guinea at midday today for the late Jonah Lomu’s Legacy Sevens tournament launch at the New Zealand High Commission in Port Moresby.

The wife of the All Blacks great arrived to a warm welcome at the Jacksons International Airport with traditional dance group from Central and delegates from the New Zealand High Commission including a surprised public at the airport area.

“When I received the invitation, it was a great honour and privilege to be invited here and be part of something so wonderful,” Nadene said.

Highlighting that, this is her first time in PNG and she had brought her dad Mervyn Quirk with her as he was part of her since then.

“I am grateful and looking forward for the games this weekend as I haven’t been watching Rugby since and this will be a very special moment for me.”

She thanked the organisers for putting such an activity in place in memory of her husband and the people of the country for the wonderful initiative.

However, Nadene and her dad walked out of the terminal to a huge crowd as she grew more emotional and shared tears to the wonderful welcome.
