Insufficient evidence found against Blackwood

The former General Manager of Cosmopolitan club in Port Moresby Michael Blackwood was cleared by the District Court after it found insufficient evidence against him.

Blackwood was facing allegations he assaulted a guard at the Lamana Gold club on Jan 18, 2015 during the Michael Learns to Rock concert in Port Moresby.

He was charged for causing grievous bodily harm to Kavora Lare between 12midnight and 1am on Jan 18, 2015 outside the Lamana Gold Club car park.

This resulted in Lare sustaining multiple bruises and swelling to his face, a fractured nasal bone and laceration of the upper left eye lid.

However, on June 4, 2015, Magistrate Cosmas Bidar cleared Blackwood of the charge saying there was insufficient evidence to warrant his committal to the National Court for trial.

Bidar in his ruling also said there were others also involved in the alleged incident who were not charged along with Blackwood.

Loop PNG was not in court then to cover the case but Police Prosecutor Chief Sergeant Polon Koniu confirmed that the case was dismissed last year due to lack of evidence.

Loop PNG went back on the case following several requests by Blackwood to have a story on April 11,2015 removed from the Loop PNG Facebook page.
