Illiterate MPs contribute to corruption: Gore

Minister for Community Development, Youths and Religion and Sohe MP, Delilah Gore has called on the Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates Dr Alphonse Gelu to establish a criteria to screen and vet intending candidates.

She said: “Most of the MPs in the Parliament are illiterate and don’t know the process and corrupts the system which results in their public servants depleting all the funds earmarked for development purposes.”

Gore stressed that each political parties must recruit candidates based on educational background and experiences.

“Once they are elected, they will be in a better position to deliver the service effectively,” she said.

She said as a result of public servants incompetency, consultants have been hired to compile reports and get documents in order to fast track projects and programmes.

Gore said her district in Sohe, the District Development Authority has engaged well qualified technical officers who are in the district performing engineering and architectural duties.

“Our engineer is on the site to supervise all district feeder roads while architecture is designing and building fabricated material for all new classrooms and dormitories for schools in the district.

“So most of our building projects would be completed by now,” she said.
