I am not intimidated with threats: Marape

Minister for Finance and Leader of Government Business James Marape says the threats he received cannot stop him from delivering his duties.

Marape in a press conference today said he had been receiving threats from unknown people threatening to assassinate him and destroy his family for the past two weeks.

He said he had received at least 13 life threatening messages to him and his family over on-going politics in Hela and the PNG LNG benefits funds.

“I cannot be intimidated by any threats to carry out my responsibilities as an elected parliamentary leader of Hela Province and the country as a whole.”

He said police have been notified about the threats and the perpetrators will be caught soon.

Marape further added that with the assistance of the police force, he would ensure that those who were responsible for these threats would be identified and face the full force of the law.

He said such threats are the works of power hungry people who don’t have the heart for the people but to fulfill their greed and tend to using such cybercrime techniques.

“It has gone to the stage where I can no longer keep it secretly but reveal to the public the kind of sick society we can be in when people who are supposed to be leaders behave like wild animals.”
