Hunters grab 16-point win against Devils

The SP PNG Hunters have secured their sixth win in the Intrust Super Cup, defeating Norths Devils by 16 points.

Hunters scored six goals through Atte Bina, Adex Wera and Benjamin Hetra in the first half and Justin Olam, Thompson Teteh and Adam Korave in the second half.

 Five of the tries were converted by captain Noel Zeming, including two penalty goals in the second half.

The visitors were the first to score through Dave Faamita 4-0 after an unsuccessful conversion. Devils scored again and just under 10 minutes, they extended their lead 10-0 after a successful conversion by Todd Murphy.

Another try for Devils came six minutes later followed by an unsuccessful conversion 16-0. Hunters fought back to score their first try 16 minutes to half-time through Bina, 16-6.

Wera, playing his 50th game tonight, was the next to score for Hunters 16-12, 11 minutes to half-time. Hetra leveled the score four minutes to half-time 16-16 and a conversion by Zeming resulted in Hunters leading 18-16 at half time.

In the second half, Hunters took a penalty kick to extend their lead by two points 20-16. Devils came back, scoring their fourth goal 26 minutes to full-time to get back in the lead 22-18.

Four minutes later, Olam took the Hunters back into the lead with another try 26-22.

Teteh extended the lead 18 minutes to full-time with a 90-metre runaway try, 30-22. Another try from Hunters through Korave took the home team up 36-22.

Finally, another penalty kick four minutes to full-time took the Hunters home 38-22.
