Gunning for Gold

The stage is set for the 15th Pacific Games and Digicel PNG’s Head of Mobile Advertising and Sales, Tania Mairi Mahuru, is gunning for Gold!

Tania is competing as an individual in the Air Pistol event and as part of a team of sharp-shooters in the Standard Pistol event.

She only took up the sport a year ago for fun, so her prowess has taken everyone by surprise, especially her husband!

“He works in security,” Tania explained, “and encouraged me to go to the shooting range.”

“We both have guns now – but I’m a better shooter than he is J”

It is clear to spectators that this sport requires a bullet-proof attitude and good eye-sight, but Tania believes one’s stance and focus are of equal importance.

“This sport is more of a mind game,” she said.

“You have to have your mind clear of all distractions and focused on what you set out to achieve.”

“Controlled breathing helps as well. I try to block out all distractions during practice and competitions.”

When asked if she had any words of advice for amateur sports-shooters wishing to follow in her footsteps, Tania said, “Practice, practice, practice. Practice makes perfect. And be sure to be a good team player!”

Good luck Tania – from all your fellow Digicel team players!
