Group launches 2016 International Youth Day logo

A youth flash mob gathered this morning to unveil and launch the 2016 International Youth Day logo and theme "Our Voice, Our Choice, Our Future".

Yu Yet PNG Ltd, a yogabatic group, performed at the Sir John Guise Stadium to officially launch the Youth Day and mark the one month countdown to the event, which will be held on August 21.

The one-day event will kick off with the Walk for Life led by Governor Powes Parkop. It will start from Ela Beach Amphitheatre at 5am and finish at the stadium at 7am.

NCDC youth desk and event co-chair, Rex Buka, says this event will give the youths of Port Moresby a chance to celebrate and provide them with the opportunity to discover their potential. It will also help them learn about activities and events that exist for youths here in the city.

"One of these groups is the Yoga for Life Program run across the city of which Yu Yet PNG were asked to perform as they represent all youths and can be given the chance to transform their communities," Buka says.

It was through the Yoga for Life program that these unemployed dropouts first started to practice yoga with a mix of acrobatics. They combined both arts to become yogabatics.

Buka adds that with the assistance from different partners and stakeholders such as the Office of the Governor, NCD Youth Desk, Marie Stopes PNG, Safe Motherhood Alliance PNG, Populations Service International, FHI360, 92.3 Tribe FM and many others who have contributed. The day is set for an upbeat surprise.

He appeals to all the youths in the city to come by and witness some of the drills that will be performed by Yu Yet PNG yogabatic group.

There will also be performances by juveniles at Bomana and items by some well-known artists.
