Govt to give support to NSL

The Government has agreed to support the National Soccer League by giving an annual grant for the next five years.

The grant will be used for administration purposes to pay for rentals, staff salary and other logistics.

NSL board chairman Isaac Lupari confirmed that he will be signing an agreement with the PNG Sports Foundation regarding the annual grant.

Lupari said they will officially make the announcement once all the paper work is completed and all approvals have been processed through the government system.

“This is one way of the government coming forward to support NSL for the first time as they see the importance of soccer.

“They’re aware of where soccer is moving today and what soccer can do to enhance human resource development and creating a decent harmony and peaceful community,” Lupari said.

He also thanked the government for dedicating the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium as the home of NSL which will see most games to be played there during the 2016-2017 season.

He thanked the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko for recognising the needs of soccer in the country.
