Govt fails on parliament sitting rules: Polye

The Opposition is seeking legal opinion on the apparent shortfall on parliamentary sitting days in the 2015 parliamentary calendar.

Lawyer Lohia Henao says that legal action is under consideration and will raise the matter if need be.

Meantime, Opposition Leader Don Polye says that Parliament did not meet the constitutional requirement of 63 sitting days in a year,  meaning that the parliamentary calendar had fallen short.

He says that he will also be raising this with the Speaker’s office and call for them to sit the full required number of sitting days once Parliament resumes  on March 22nd 2016.

Polye raised the issue adding that this showed  that the government was not serious in dealing with issues of national importance.

He says that the Parliament is like a “Haus man” where leaders come to  talk about affairs of importance but says that this may not be properly looked at if they do not meet.
