Gov’t to save millions in rental

The government will save millions in rental expenses when they move into the refurbished Marea Haus (Pineapple building) tomorrow.

It spends more than K200 million to rent office space annually.

This will now be a thing of the past, thanks to the Oil Search tax credit scheme.

In 2013, the Government appointed Oil Search as project manager for the refurbishment of Marea House that had fallen derelict.

The project was a flagship job for the National Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme.

Oil Search will hand over Marea House to the Department of the Prime Minister and NEC in preparation in time for the first NEC meeting in March.

Trevor Meauri, deputy secretary for policy with the Department of Prime said the National Government is expected to save K100 million on rental expenses for its departments and other state organisations by the end of this year.
