Gerehu school celebrates Independence day early

Students at the Port Moresby Christian Academy in Gerehu suburb of Port Moresby have gathered at their school to celebrate the country's 41st independence day anniversary.

Wearing their red, black and gold colours of the country's flag, the students are happy to observe the day.

Principal Joe Rare said the students are having the early celebrations as their third term academic year finishes today.

He said students, teachers and parents are celebrating the occasion to impart a message to the students about the country's history.

He added that the celebration will also feature item presentations from different classes performing.

The Independence anniversary falls on September 16.

This year marks 41 years of the country's anniversary after gaining independence on Sept 16, 1975.

Meanwhile, NCD Governor Power Parkop has plans and arranged  for the Independence celebration in the city with performances from different cultural groups in various locations  within the city.
