Gender diversity essential at workplace

Gender diversity at the workplace in any organisation is essential for the development of Papua New Guinea.

2016 Westpac Women Award Winner and an Information Technology manager Bosa Togs says management of organisations must be committed to gender diversity.

Togs explained that the acceptance of women today into industries and fields dominated by men because of their educational achievement or attitude is inevitable.

She said it’s not always easy to be in such a domain and taking a proactive stance in this kind of field is a bit difficult especially for women.

“In few years, women will no longer have to shout to be heard or given that recognition in their demands and any company that wishes to stay afloat and remain in business will need women.

“At this level women need the support not only of their leaders but that of their male colleagues which can be challenging.

“Women have the ability to be able to find a common ground with everyone at their workplaces.”

Togs said the success stories of women are tested to strong personalities, persistence and confidence, good communication skills, well-grounded professional development and life balance.

She stressed that organisation must have good governance, policies and working practices that encourage and convince women and ensure that they advance in their careers.

Togs added that good governance is about being accountable, transparent, responsive and not complacent, equitable and inclusive, effective and efficient and involving others to participate in decision making and discussions.
