Food gardens destroyed by extreme weather

Extreme weather in parts of the Highlands has destroyed acres of food gardens.

Farmers are worried they will not have fresh food to market and consume in the months ahead.

Heavy frost started at about 2am yesterday in the Tambul disctrict.

Locals say Tambul was covered in “ice crystals.’’

Food gardens were destroyed by the extreme cold in both the Upper and Lower Kaguel areas.

The Western Highlands Provincial Disaster office has been made aware of the situation.

Tambul District located at the foot of Mt. Giluwe experienced frost almost 15 years ago.

There are fears this time it could be bigger and more destructive.
