Florist mothers make Manus proud in their own little way

The nine mothers who travelled all the way from Manus Island to take part in the Port Moresby Floriculture show may have a mountain of odds stacked against them.

Firstly, they are stranded because  they each raised their own airfares  to fly to the PNG capital on a one-way fare. Secondly, they missed their Mothers Day celebrations with their family as they struggled to come to terms they were far from home, and who knows what other mind games they are going through.

But the glimmer of hope and solace can come out of what may seem  insurmountable obstacles, is the fact that they are still winners.

You see, these determined mothers led by president Grace Malai and Technical Officer Brigette Pahun came to the show not knowing what lay in store for them. But what they have achieved was a major bonus for the members of the Pihi Manus Association.

The show from Monday May 2 to Sunday May 8 which was Mothers Day, included displays, exchange of ideas in flower arrangements as well as networking  and other topics of interest.

It was in the awarding of places that the mothers from Manus won recognition for their  determination and commitment  and most of all, for being present.

For their efforts, the Manusians were awarded in three categories, third place in Fresh Cut Flowers,   third place in Sleeve Flower Bunch and second place in Bouquet presentation.

So  when they eventually return to their island home, the Manus mothers can still be proud  that they have in their own little way, did the island of Manus proud.

The Manus group were with six other provinces that took part in the show.
