FIFA names referees for U20 Women’s World Cup games

FIFA recently has announced the referees and the assistant referees who will officiate at the forthcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Papua New Guinea 2016.

There are 16 women referees and 27 women assistant referees from 32 different countries who will take charge of the matches. 

The 16 women referees include Liang Qin (China), Casey Reibelt (Australia), Thein Aye (Malaysia), Therese Neguel (Cameron), Fatou Thioune (Senegal), Marianela Cruz Araya (Croatia), Melissa Borjas (Honduras), Quetzalli Alvarado (Mexico), Yercinia Correa (Venezuela), Silvia Reyes (Peru) , Finau Vulivuli (Fiji), Jana Adamkova (Czechoslovakia) , Riem Hussein (German) , Katalin Kulcsar (Hungary), Monika Mularczyk (Poland)  and Sara Persson (Sweden)- all from different confederation.

Representing the pacific and the only qualified female referee approved by FIFA in the Oceania Confederation is Finau Vulivuli of Fiji.

Vulivuli refereed the NigeriaCanada Match day 3 game in the 2011 World Cup, and she has also officiated first stage games in the 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2016 U–17 World Cups.

This year 2016, she has become the first Fiji referee to attend two World Cups in a single year after being selected for the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups.

She has also refereed male football games in Fiji, including the 2013 Battle of the Giants and Inter District Championships finals.

She will be representing Oceania Football Confederation and the Pacific next month for FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.

The games will take place in Port Moresby between November 13 and December 3, 2016 and the final will be played on December 3 in the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
