Fear stricken students lose personal belongings at Unitech

Majority of the University of Technology male residential students lost all their personal belongings during the shock attack and burning down of school properties last Saturday night.

Unitech East Sepik Students Association president Andrew Wiavi said the male dormitories were ransacked by outsiders after students vacated the campus in fear. This followed the hacking of their colleague.

“All students carried only a backpack with their laptops and school documents in the rush to get out of the campus,” Wiavi said.

He added that students from East Sepik were also affected and hopes local parliamentarians from the province can step in to assist.

The East Sepik Provincial Government started flying its 140 students out of Lae yesterday to Wewak, Port Moresby, Kimbe and Kavieng.

Wiavi thanked provincial Governor Sir Michael Somare, John Simon (Maprik MP) and Richard Maru (Yangoru-Saussia MP) for their response to the displaced students who camped outside campus since Sunday.

“We are yet to hear from MPs from Wewak, Angoram, Ambunti-Dreikikir and Wosera-Gawi,” Wiavi said.
