Father of killed son to fight on

Thomas Yinu the father of the grade 11 student that was killed by soldiers last year says that despite the murder case being struck out, the fight for justice for his son is far from over.

Jeremiah Yinu was bashed up and in a comma allegedly by the soldiers in retaliation to a fight with students on July 25, 2015.

Yinu died on October 7, succumbing to injuries he sustained from the brutal bashing.

His death saw the initial charge of attempted murder upgraded to murder, which was struck out yesterday (March 16).

A frustrated Thomas Yinu spoke with PNG Loop saying that he will seek legal clarification from his lawyers about what other avenues are available for him to pursue the case further.

Magistrate John Kaumi struck out the case yesterday after the arresting officer  investigating the case, failed to produce those files in court.

The matter was adjourned since March 2, to give time for the investigating officer to produce those findings before the court which he did not do.

Despite requests through the police prosecution team to have the matter adjourned for more time to compile the completed investigation findings this was refused by Magistrate John Kaumi.

The magistrate says that as more than enough time was allowed by the court for investigators to perform.

Thomas Yinu says he will meet with his lawyers today and see what can be done.

For now he says that while he is disappointed with the outcome he will not give up on the case that has taken the life of his young son.
