Family satisfied with sentencing

Thomas Pisimi, husband of late Moanna who was killed during a high-speed car chase by police on New Year this year is satisfied with the decision on the sentencing of Jack Baria.

Baria 45, who held a rank of First Constable with Lae Police was charged with wilful murder and today sentenced to 30 years imprisonment with hard labour.

Pisimi says although the family is satisfied that justice was served, it will not bring back his wife, and the mother of his children.

The families say they hope Baria’s sentencing sends a strong message to policemen and women that no one is above the law.

“There are many good hard working policemen and women but we always have those who are trigger happy and their actions make everyone look bad,” says Pisimi.

He has also commended police investigators for ensuring the case made it to court and now it has been put to rest.

Pisimi is also encouraging others who fight the same battle to never give up.

“I know it is taking too long but rest assured that justice will prevail,” he encouraged.

The murder of Moanna Pisimi has been a high profile case this year and it took 11 months for justice to be served.
