Family to Petition Government

The immediate relatives of the deceased student, Graham Romanong want the Government to take full responsibility and investigate the death of the Unitech student.

They are also calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice, and the Government meet the funeral expenses and an immediate investigation to be carried out into the security arrangements of the University at the time of the murder.

Late Graham’s elder brother, Angelis Romanong condemned the killing in the strongest possible term and called on police to quickly investigate the murder and bring those involved to justice.

The family in Port Moresby is preparing a petition in consultation with their immediate relatives in the village and will be presented to the Government by the end of the week.

Romanong said three main points that will be included in the petition include:

  1. Government to take full responsibility for the death and engage police to investigate the death and justice be served.
  2. That the Government meet all expenses including funeral and repatriation costs and must be quick
  3. And that a full scale investigation be carried out to establish the security arrangements on the fateful night of 25th June when Graham was murdered in his room.

He said media reports in the days leading up to his brother’s death presented a different story, portraying that the campus was back to normal and security arrangements were in place.

But he is disappointed to learn that armed men entered his brother’s room without being detected by the security and murdered him in his sleep.

Despite this, he has appealed to his relative in Mendi not to vandalise State properties but to remain calm as they deal with the issues at hand.
