Families booted out as armed police stand by

Parents and children of a Konedobu settlement in Port Moresby have no place to sleep tonight as a threatened eviction goes ahead.

LOOP News witnessed about six police vehicles and policemen with guns standing on guard as settlers  picked up their bags and pulled down their houses.

 Police men told this reporter she was not allowed to take pictures of the eviction and that she had to get permission from their lawyer.

Spokesperson Ricky Kepas says most of the settlers have been living there for more than 30 years and are not sure where they will go.

This land area has been acquired by a company called WK (PNG) Ltd.

The settlement located behind the Trukai Rice Industry premises at Konedobu is Motu Koitabu customary land, its portion originally DA2077 according to landowners in Hanuabada.
