ExxonMobil helps capital city with power boost

An additional 25MW of electricity is being fed into the power supply for Port Moresby city.

It’s coming from ExxonMobil PNG Limited, operator of the PNG LNG project.

The additional electricity is coming from the PNG LNG plant to PNG Power.

The milestone was celebrated at the LNG Plant with the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, PNG Power and other key officials recently.

ExxonMobil PNG managing director Andrew Barry said he was extremely proud of the achievement which delivered on a key commitment to supply electricity to PNG Power for local use under an agreement signed with the Government and PNG Power in January this year.

“ExxonMobil PNG has done an outstanding job of fast tracking the project in order to deliver electricity from gas turbine generators inside the plant, to the people of PNG in time for the start of the Pacific Games,’’ Mr Barry said.

“A team of 80 people completed around 100,000 hours of work to deliver the project safely and without incident.

“I also congratulate PNG Power for delivering on their commitment to install power lines to the plant and for working closely with us to ensure readiness to receive the electricity. It has been a team effort,” said Barry.
