European organisation supports Callan Services with K300,000

A European organisation based in Austria, called the Light of the World, has supported the Callan Services in Bougainville with a funding of K300,000.

This is to improve the current state of infrastructure at the centre.

With the funding, two projects will be worked on: A double classroom at K35,000 and fencing around the service centre.

“The project will improve the overall learning centre environment for the students in the long run,” says coordinator for Callan Services, Blaise Semoso.

Semoso says at the recent National Disability Day celebrations, Acting Chief Assistant Secretary of the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) Department of Education, Dorothy Kenneth, said the ABG will continue their support to Callan Services Centre with their annual grant of K50,000.

The ABG’s Department of Education has provided support for teachers to undergo the Diploma in Special Education training. This has been facilitated by Callan Services in partnership with the Divine Word University in Madang.

Semoso adds that currently, there is a diploma program being run and they have given approval for their teachers to attend this training as children with disability require special teachers.

The ABG’s Department of Education has a new five-year education plan which will be focused on accessing quality education for children with special needs in the region.
