Enforcement Division confiscates 81 illegal DVD’s

The Enforcement Division of the Office of Censorship yesterday confiscated 81 illegal Digital Video Disc’s (DVD’s) from a Rapid Phone outlet in Port Moresby.

Acting Senior Enforcement Officer, Gerea Kapa said the DVD’s were taken from the Rapid Phone outlet located at the Food World shopping centre.

He said the DVD’s were being resold without proper classification labels from the Office of Censorship.

He said that Rapid Phone operates under a Publication Premises company called Pro Scan Limited and although they are registered to sell DVD’s to the public, the DVD’s that were on display did not have any classification label from the Office of Censorship.

Acting Manager Compliance & Operations Division, Bais Buchanan stated that due to financial constraints, the Office was not able to carry out proper inspections at the Rapid Phone outlet.

However, he added that publication premises have the responsibility of complying with regulations by registering and obtaining proper classification labels from the Office of Censorship.

Buchanan said a combined operation is planned to take place later in the year with assistance from the Royal PNG Constabulary and the PNG Customs office.

In a similar operation last week, Buchanan confirmed that over 30 illegal Sex Enhancement Products were confiscated from the Water Front Pharmacy and are awaiting destruction.
