Elections to stick to same system, says poll chief

Papua New Guineans will vote in the 2017 National General Election using the Limited Preferential Voting (LPV) system, says Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato.

“I am not aware of that, I have not been formally informed if there is any decision (to change the LPV system); we are still remaining with the LPV system,” Gamato responded to a Loop PNG question about rumours the government will be changing the voting system.

LPV allows for a voter to have three preferential candidates to vote for, and the winning candidate must acquire more than 50 percent of the total population vote in the designated constituency to be declared the winner.
