Education level in ESP drops: Maru

The level of education in East Sepik has been drastically below the cut of marks compared to other schools in the country.

Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru when speaking at the officially opening of a four in one double classroom at Bugusu Elementary School in the West Yangoru LLG of Yangoru-Saussia District recently said the results of education level is frightening.

He told the packed crowd that statistics have shown that from the top 40 schools in PNG that  enroll Grade 12’s,none of them were from  East Sepik Province.

“No schools from East Sepik Province have made it into these top 40 schools. I want this to change and we must take the challenge on board to ensure schools in the District produce the best results,” said Maru.

He urged the Head Teacher of Bugusu Elementary school to work hard and ensure elementary students from Bugusu know English and Mathematics very well at that level before they go on to do Primary education.

He also urged parents to take up the responsibility to instill discipline at home on their children before they leave their homes and go to school.

“If teachers and the Government do their role or part and parents fail, the students will not perform academically well,” said Maru.
