Eda Ranu stops water rationing exercise in NCD

Eda Ranu will stop its scheduled water rationing for its consumers starting today.

Eda Ranu chief executive officer Henry Mokono revealed this during a media conference this morning.

“With the improvement at the dam level, our water rationing will be uplifted as of today and normal (water) supply will continue in Port Moresby.

“Normal water will be restored to everyone on 24 hours basis.”

Mokono said the state owned water supplier will uplift the water rationing for two months as a trial and changes will be made depending on the weather pattern and dam water level.

He also thanked water consumers for bearing with the water entity during water rationing measures we put in place to save the depleting water stock at Sirinumu Dm because of the long drought last year.

“I want to thank the people of Port Moresby in bearing with us because we have never experienced a major problem during the water rationing period, apart from water pressure issues.”

Meanwhile, the current water level at Sirinumu Dam has slightly increased by 12 million cubic metres in the last two weeks.

Eda Ranu chief operating officer Dr Fifaia Matainaho said the water measurement is now at 114 million cubic metres (MCM), an increase of 12 MCM in the last two weeks.

This is 33.4 percent of the dam spill level at 340MCM.
