E-Commerce in SME Summit underway in Moresby

The E-Commerce in Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Summit is underway at the International Convention Centre in Port Moresby.

The summit complements the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) 2nd meeting and is attended by over 800 participants from SMEs throughout the country.

APEC and ABAC recognise that the key initiatives to help and support the SMEs are access to international market, access to finance, capacity building, innovation and entrepreneurship.

During the official opening of the one-day summit today, PNG APEC ambassador Ivan Pomaleu welcomed the participants and guest speakers, stressing that APEC advocates strong SME growth through the use of technology.

Pomaleu said APEC 2018 will be featuring SME development and its integration into the global value chains very prominently.

“This summit is therefore relevant now and is also extremely forward looking in its scope.

“In preparing to host the APEC Leaders’ Summit in 2018, PNG has begun to socialise its policy working theme of ‘Inclusive and sustainable growth, connectivity for all’.

“The development of SME and its integration into the global value chain will continue to be an important feature.

“We are delighted that we have an opportunity to host this event in Moresby today,” Pomaleu said.

Topics for the summit include cross border e-commerce ecosystem, online marketing, online payment and trust and safety, cross border customer relation management and internet finance.

Presentations are done mostly by the world’s leading online marketplace for wholesale consumer products DHgate.com.
