DWU makes position known on protest

Divine Word University has finally come out to make its position known about the current issue concerning the protest as well as the forum that was staged on Monday, May 9.

In a press statement released on Monday by the DWU student representative council president Jackson Mulupe, he explains that the forum that was held on May 9 was a panel discussion of prominent individuals who attended to explain and make clear sense of events that were happening in Port Moresby, to which students and staff were invited to ask questions and express their views.

The views that were aired in the forum were then collected by the DWU SRC and later summarised to give a formal and fixed feedback, which was put yesterday in the form of a press release.

The DWU SRC, on  behalf of its students and staff of the university, have decided that in the spirit of the National Constitution and the DWU charter, vision and core values considering the welfare of all students have declared a  neutral stand.

This means that the student body of DWU will not partake in any protest rather, with respect to the rule of law, will let it take its course.

DWU supports the court’s decision to open the National Fraud and Anti- Corruption Directorate to continue their work. They have also come to an agreement that Police Commissioner Gari Baki should disband the internal commission inquiry and let the fraud squad continue on with the investigations.
