Duban discusses Gulf LNG with leaders

Petroleum Minister Nixon Duban says the Government is quietly discussing with the leaders of Gulf Province issues surrounding possible products of the second LNG project Elk Antelope.

He says local leaders representing the people have raised concerns they want the government to deal with interests of the people first and then the project.

Duban says the people want the Government to secure infrastructure developments in the province.

He added that he has had discussions with the province’s governor and the local people and consultation meetings with the people have taken place in Kerema town on many occasions.

He also says the strong view of the governor to have the pipeline in the province is being discussed and a decision on that will be made once leaders find common ground.

“These discussions are ongoing and I have encouraged local leaders to work alongside the provincial leaders,” he informed PNG Loop.

Duban has assured the people of Gulf Province that the Government will accommodate the interest of both the people and the developer of the project.
