Don’t let materialism compromise values: Opposition

Values should become a driving force behind materialism and the existence of the former should not be compromised, says Opposition Leader Don Pomb Polye.

Mr Polye said in this way PNG would try to develop a better culture for prosperity.

He said PNG was on a wrong path where the values were marginalized.

Polye has urged the people to demand values from their leaders and not material things.

“We leaders should take the lead by way of nurturing and cultivating values of high morality for the betterment of the country.

“It is not the case here in the country as the values have been compromised in our quest for materialism,” said Mr Polye when speaking to a gathering in Port Moresby to launch Goilala district’s projects.

With the high morality, he said, their conscience would not overlook the illiteracy and ignorance of the people.

“The values of honesty, trust, integrity, good governance and transparency will dictate our decisions and we will be conscious not to ride on the ignorance and illiteracy of our people,” said Mr Polye.

He said making mistakes was part of humanity but it should not be an excuse.

“Straight and honest errors should be tolerated and not deliberate ones,” said Mr Polye.
