Doctors maintain 21-day stance

The members of the National Doctors Association are maintaining their 21-day notice.

NDA president Dr James Naipao confirmed that the doctors are all at work and the 21-day notice will be enforced when it expires on August 4.

Naipao said only a positive response would prevent any stop work, especially on petition points 2 and 3, which is a Union matter. The summary is as follows:

(2) Petitioning Government for the more than 30 percent budget cut in the health sector, and non-financing of the K50 million earmarked for Church Health Services.

(3) NDA's condemnation of the closure of the School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Taurama Campus, UPNG. The second part of this is to backdate the academics, amounting to close to K5 million.

Following the vote of no-confidence on Friday, July 22, Naipao said they’ve fought a fight with grace.

“We cannot continue to fight, there has to be peace along the way.

“A nation that keeps fighting without accepting defeat is a nation that doesn't want to exist as a nation and this is absolutely not right.

“Let us now respect and accept what our 111 members of parliament have decided on the floor of parliament,” Naipao said.

He urged the people to choose leaders with sound moral and ethical values during the 2017 National Election, as this is generally lacking in our current leaders.
