Digicel staff begin visits to learning centres to celebrate Christmas

To help spread some festive cheer in the lead up to Christmas, Digicel staff have started their annual visits to teachers and children at Community Learning Centres (CLC) in and around Port Moresby.

The Digicel Foundation Christmas Community Learning Centres X-mas Visit Program 2016, is an annual event organised by the Digicel Foundation team, which invites staff members from every Digicel department to participate.

During these visits, Digicel staff members share the spirit of Christmas with the children from 12 CLC and also took the opportunity to acknowledge and reward the students for their achievements throughout the academic year.

This week, Digicel’s IT and technical staff visited O’Connor CLC in Gerehu, followed by a visit to Mercy Care CLC, Erima, on Wednesday 16 November by Digicel marketing, retail and products teams, together with the Digicel Foundation team.

Digicel managing director, mobile, Shivan Bhargava, who accompanied the teams to the Mercy Care CLC said it was a pleasure to meet the children and hard-working staff.

“Digicel is committed to supporting the communities in which we live, and a big part of this includes giving back to early education centres who do so much to help prepare local children for formal schooling,” he said.

“Our visit to Mercy Care Community Learning Centre in Erima was very touching.

“It was wonderful to see so many smiling littles faces as we shared a cake, sang a Christmas carol together and provided gift packs and presents to all 127 students and their teachers.”

“I am very happy for today and would like to thank Digicel Foundation and to all of you for coming to celebrate Christmas with the children,” said head teacher for Mercy Care CLC Pauline Nelson.

More than 1120 Digicel staff will participate in the Digicel Foundation Christmas Community Learning Centres X-mas Visit Program 2016, which concludes on Saturday, 3 December, at Mutineo CLC at Nine-Mile.
