Digicel reaches remote South coast of WNB

The people of South Coast of West New Britain Province can now talked with their loved ones around the country and abroad.

The WNB Provincial Government in partnership with Digicel PNG built two Towers in the area to improve the communication services

One tower was built in Maklo in Kandrian and the other at Airagilpua in Gloucester.

Governor Sasindran Muthuvel launched the two towers.

Muthuvel when speaking at the launch said we are living in the 21st century and communication is vital.

He told the people that from where he came from (India), they can excess internet, communicate with people in Kimbe and with the outside world.

Muthuvel said they can easily communicate information to the Provincial Government and the Provincial Disaster Center in times of disaster and other information on health and education.

The people from Maklo, Kautu Mete and other surrounding areas were not able to connect with the outside world until last Friday when the tower was switched on.

For the people of Gloucester, they had to walk long distance up to seven hours in search of areas where Digicel signals could be reached to make calls.

This is now a thing of the past and the people have praised Muthuvel, the Provincial Government and Digicel PNG for the partnership in bringing about this service.

Under this partnership the Provincial Government has so far built four towers in the Province, one at Garu in Talasea, the second on Vitu Island, and now at Maklo and Airagilpua.

Muthuvel was accompanied by Digicel PNG Project Manager Shent Kiddie, Marketing Manageress Rona Dugan and Provincial Government representatives to launch the towers.
