Digicel Play scores exclusive free-to-air rights to broadcast Rugby World Cup

Digicel Play and TVWAN have secured exclusive free-to-air rights to broadcast all matches of the 2015 Rugby World Cup (RWC) in Papua New Guinea.

Taking place every 4 years, the RWC 2015 is hosted in England and Wales from September 18th to November 1st.

The RWC is watched by over 4 billion viewers, and ranks as one of the world’s top 5 sporting events, alongside rivals, FIFA World Cup and the Olympics.

Digicel’s CEO Maurice McCarthy said “We are excited to bring the Rugby World Cup free, uninterrupted and live to fans of the sport throughout the country.”

“With PNG’s fast growing interest in rugby union we are delighted to offer every TVWAN viewer a front-row seat to all the action.”

This is the first time ever that Papua New Guineans will be able to watch the Rugby World Cup in HD quality.

TV WAN viewers will not miss a single fixture of the tournament played in eleven cities across England and Wales.

The coverage will kick off with the opening match between England and Fiji on September 18th.

Matches will also be re-transmitted on a delayed basis in order to ensure that all viewers have the opportunity to enjoy the competition.

To watch almost 200 hours of RWC coverage, viewers must have a Digicel Play Box.

Boxes are available for purchase from any Digicel shop or at authorised dealer stores.

Digicel Play is now available via direct-to-home satellite (DTH) in all regions of PNG and via digital terrestrial television (DTT) in selected cities.

For more information visit Digicel Play online via www.digicelplay.com.pg and facebook.com/tvwan for the latest programming highlights and for news about promotions and competitions around the RWC.
