Digicel Play and TVWAN win World T20 broadcasting rights

Digicel Play and TVWAN Sports HD announce that they have won exclusive rights to broadcast live matches of the 2015 World T20 Qualifier hosted in Ireland and Scotland.

The tournament is significant to Cricket PNG as the national men’s team, the PNG Barramundis, are currently participating in the tournament to earn a spot to qualify for the 2016 ICC World T20 Cup in India next year.

Digicel’s CEO Maurice McCarthy said:  “Digicel is proud to bring this exciting tournament to TVWAN Sports HD subscribers throughout PNG.

“We are sure that new and existing fans of the sport will enjoy watching the action unfold and cheering on the Barramundis as they fight to secure a place at the world’s most glamorous and entertainment-filled cricket tournament, taking place in India 2016.”

The 20-camera High Definition coverage live from Dublin will be brought to PNG viewers in crystal clear HD quality. To watch the Barramundis, viewers must first purchase a Digicel Play Box from any Digicel shop authorized retail dealer, he said.

Existing customers can subscribe to 1 Day Premium, 7 Days, 7 Days Premium, 30 Days and 30 Days Premium packs to watch the game live on TVWAN Sports HD – along with many other sports, like the Digicel Cup and the PNG Hunters matches.

Cricket fans can also catch up on the event via www.facebook.com/tvwansports, as well as in TVWAN’s sports news in its main news bulletin every day at 6 pm.

Cricket PNG chairman Sir Mick Nades said, “One of our long term strategies is get the Barramundis and Lewas on local TV, giving an opportunity to the wider community of PNG an opportunity to witness with the best PNG cricketers playing at the highest level.

“By having the likes of Assad (Vala) and Lega (Siaka) now being broadcasted live on TV in PNG, will assist the PNG public in putting a face to athletes that they have only once heard of in the Media, watching them play live at a high level competition and hopefully inspire more people from PNG to take up cricket.”

“Cricket PNG is very grateful for Digicel for obtaining the broadcast rights for the ICC World T20 in which the PNG Barramundis will be striving to qualify for their first ICC World Cup,’’ Nades said.

The official Cricket PNG hashtag on social media will be #BarrasforWT20Q.
