Development of Cybercrime law nearing completion

Work on developing the cybercrime legislation is nearing completion.

This follows a Cybercrime Policy that was endorsed by Government in 2014.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jimmy Miringtoro confirmed that the legislation is near completion and he expects to table a Bill in Parliament this coming session.

Cybercrime includes pornography, human trafficking, money laundering and other issues of crime related to the use of internet.

The Cybercrime Policy covers identify risks, vulnerability, type of offenses and penalties in cyber space.

Miringtoro said the Internet Filtering Policy Concept is part of the government’s effort in combating cybercrimes and encourages proper use of ICTs for development.
