DBTI 4th year student do youth ministry workshop

The 4th year Bachelor students of Don Bosco Technological Institute, East Boroko underwent a Youth Ministry workshop from July 20 -2, 2016.

The workshop entitled “3rd Millennium Youth Ministry” was facilitated by Fr. Mario Baclig, SDB from the Philippines.   The workshop was organised to offer additional skills to 4th year students, who will soon become future teachers of Papua New Guinea.

In the two-day course, Fr. Mario, elaborated on the three basic steps in the Youth Ministry – See, Judge and Act.  See, so that one is able to know the youth; Judge, to set the right directions and Act, that the animators will go out and serve them. While this may seem easy to many, it requires a deeper understanding to put the above steps in a logical and systematic way.

This is because some teachers judge the young based on their outside appearance rather than looking at what is inside.

Some youth are struggling to find themselves as they deal with their fragmented personality while others look for a sense of belonging.  Some are open to God but several do not care about God and religion.  Finally, there are those who are without any hierarchy of values.

Many activities were done during the two-day workshop.  Dancing, singing, clapping, jumping motivated the participants and had a deep meaning as well. Group discussions, creative presentations and sharing of ideas made the workshop interesting and enjoyable.

“It has been an enriching and empowering workshop that will greatly assist our future teachers”, said  one of the teachers.

The workshop concluded with the awarding of certificates to the 4th year students.  The workshop ended with the “Youth serving Youth” song, followed by the DBTI “YES Clap” for Fr Mario.
