Cyber law welcomed in AROB

The new law to combat cybercrime in Papua New Guinea has been welcomed in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

Internet users, especially professionals and business houses, are proud that the law is the brainchild and baby of the current member for Central Bougainville and Minister for Communications, Jimmy Miringtoro.

The Minister has been highly praised, especially on social media. A group called the Voice of Bougainville has commended the Minister for a job well done.

A youth leader in central Bougainville, Allan Gioni, told Loop PNG that scams, pornography and other illegal stuff will be clamped down now.

“We’re proud that our own Bougainvillean leader is heading this and that means we have to be the first people to be responsible,” Gioni said.

“We are now being bombarded with scams, online prostitution, pornography and the list goes on, but this new law will now address this issue,” he said.

“As internet users we gladly welcome this law and every SIM card now must be registered.

“We want this exercise of SIM card registration to come to Bougainville quickly. It is compulsory to register your SIM card,” he said.
