CS officers face disciplinary charges

An investigation into the 2015 Baisu New Year’s Day break has identified 10 Correctional Service officers who are alleged to have been involved in the jail break will face disciplinary charges.

CS Commissioner Michael Waipo says the disciplinary board has  completed all their reports and recommendations as of last week.

Waipo informed PNG Loop that the board has reviewed the cases of the officers implicated in the escape of 32 prisoners who are still at large.

The incident saw close to 20 men raid the prison at around 3am that Wednesday morning which resulted in the break out of the 32 prisoners.

Investigations have revealed that some officials were also involved in this break out which has been plagued with allegations of nepotism and bribery.

Despite tension at the  nail, the CS Commissioner Waipo issued a directive for the board to be set up to go review the findings, which  when completed will be sent to him  with their recommendations for him to endorse.

Waipo says that based on the findings submitted to the office in the coming weeks the disciplinary process will begin for the 10 officers that have been identified.
