Court fines Yule Island man K150 for assault

A Central man from Yule island man has been fined K150 by the Boroko District Court for assaulting his former defacto partner over domestic issues on June 31 this year.

Ernest Haurama, 31-years of age, appeared before Magistrate Mariestella Painap today where he pleaded guilty to swearing at his former partner and assaulting her.

The court was told that the incident took place at Tokarara where he used vulgar language against the woman and her family.

Haurama admitted to the facts stated in the police documents before court but said he was provoked by the complainant, adding he also received his share of harassment by the woman’s family members.

He apologised to the court for his actions and asked the court for leniency in its decision.

“There are ways to sort out problems. I hope that you’ve learnt your lesson of what is most likely to happen when you lose your temper,” Magistrate Painap told him.

She said getting arrested is a process and attending court over time which can be a waste of time.
