Court dismisses case against Mangos

There is insufficient evidence of misappropriation against the former managing director of PNG Power Limited, John Mangos, before the Waigani Committal Court.

The Committal Court today dismissed the case against Mangos on three charges involving the post he previously held at PNG Power.

He was arrested and charged on March 15 for dishonestly applying the property of PNG Power, abuse of office and conspiring to defraud PNG Power.

Magistrate John Kaumi of the Committal Court today gave his ruling on the case, saying evidence by police investigators did not meet the elements that would amount to sufficient evidence before the court.

He dismissed the case ordering a refund of Mangos’ K5,000 bail monies. The court also ordered the return of his passport that was in custody of the court registry.

It was alleged that Mangos, between Aug 9 and Sept 20 last year in Port Moresby, gave direction to PPL’s human resource manager to pay advance salary payments of K62,475.52, the property of  PNG Power, to a Theo Casimiro.

By doing so, it was alleged he misappropriated PPL funds, abused his office and conspired with Casimiro to defraud PPL.

The court did not find sufficient evidence Mangos did so, dismissing his case and the information charging him.
