Christmas ‘wrong time’ for Games trials: Sumkar advocate

With days counting down for the PNG Games to be held in West New Britain, Madang provincial games committee is planning to stage its provincial games on the 14th to the 17th of this month.

However, some people of Madang have raised serious issues about what they call the late notice of the games which must include all the districts.

Sumkar District long serving youth and sports advocate Fred Wasim claims that for all the Provincial games, the selection has been biased and based on players in town, especially in soccer, volleyball and basketball codes.

Wasim says the notice given is late and the provincial sports office had failed to roll out sports activities in each districts so that they will select their team to participate in the Provincial games to be scouted for Team Madang.

He says this is Christmas time and without any district tournaments, it will be impossible for teams outside the Madang district to make it on time, and pick the best team.

He urges the Provincial Games Committee to postpone the games  events to next year.

Meanwhile Madang Soccer Association president Ray Romo has also thrown his support behind Wasim and said the late notice will not bring any good thing.

Romo says the planned date to host provincial games is November and it has lapsed and they should not hold it  in December  which is a time for family gatherings and will not bring good sportsmanship.

He also urges the Madang Provincial Government Community  Development sector to step up and perform their duties and responsibilities and not to sit and get paid for doing nothing.
