Children’s Christmas Feast on at Konedobu oval

The Children’s Christmas Feast is an effort to give back by way of feeding the underprivileged community just before Christmas.

And this year  this is a big reminder to all our settlement children,  that the Children’s Christmas Feast will be on Saturday December 10 at the Konedobu Oval, starting at 9am if you in the age groups of 3-12,

“There will be bus pickups every 15 minutes at the Oval opposite Boroko Foodworld, Jack Pidik Park 5 Mile, Area between Malaro Market and KopKop College, Kila Kila High School Oval and Ela Beach Memorial Park. It’s your day we want to see plenty happy children again this year enjoying the festivity,” a media statement said.

The initiative began when a small group of five women came together three years ago. The group made up of Lady Ni Cragnolini, Leanne Burrows, Ella Kasu, Sue Exton and Lynn Cheah,  and two new additions in  Elisa and Lorna McPherson.

“Initially we organised a dinner party at the RPYC to start of the sponsorships and donations, today we have two major sponsors and 13 donators.  Courageous efforts on behalf of the committee.

Primarily it was a test as mothers how we could put a smile on a sad yet grateful face and we achieved that on our first feed feeding 900+ the next year 1200+ and this year our aim is 2,500.” Leanne Burrows said in an interview with TVWAN.

“I would like to especially express our huge thank you to our major sponsors Chair Lady Ni Cragnolini of The O’Neil Foundation and CEO National Gaming Control Board Imelda Agon. Thank you!

We couldn’t do this without your continued sponsorship and support and to add this year their sponsorship has gone from K20,000 to K50,000 which obviously had made a huge difference in our feeding program. Thank you and blessing both.”

“Our other sponsors that have also continued their generous support are LNA Constructions, Grafitti Signs, RPYC, ProClean, Borneo Pacific, Lae Biscuits and the RPNG Constabulary

and to our new Digicel, TV 1, Total Media Company, Black Swan Security, NCDC, The Cancer Foundation, and StopNShop who have generously given to us at cost price 2,500

lunch packs which consists of a roast dinner fruit and drink.”

Burrows said however that this year the initiative has a few more surprises and games planned for the children.

“ last year we had the SP Hunters who had a hand in giving out the packs,

that was exciting and inspirational for the children. However, this year I hope our surprise star will make the same impact if not bigger, and hopefully we see the SP Hunters again.”

“I would like to also with tremendous appreciation give an enormous thank you to The Chinese Community, Women On The Move and all our other side-line helpers

that give us so much of their continued hardworking efforts with this event.  Great efforts ladies and gentlemen. Can’t thank you all enough.

“On another note our committee have discussed briefly in passing to find a way to campaign towards breast cancer awareness to our everyday mothers.  Mahesh Patel of CPL is sourcing an information pack that gives general information on how to check your breasts and when to seek help.  I hope next year it comes into fruition and we’ll have another course to give back to.

“Thank you Lorna, Digicel and TV1 for coming on board to bring awareness to the upcoming Children’s Christmas Feast event, your prompt and exceptional handling of media coverage is awesome. “

“Lastly, I would like to wish all the children and families that will come together to this year’s Children’s Christmas Feast, a Very Merry and Safe Christmas and hope to see them all back next year.”
