Change at Ela Beach to make way for 4-lane road

The famous Ela Beach in Down Town Port Moresby will have its coastline moved further into the sea by 100 metres to cater for a four lane road, says NCD Governor Powes Parkop.

Parkop said it will be done by dumping soil into the sea to reclaim land.

“I am asking business houses in the area to comply to make Ela Beach road into a four lane road. Funding is available.”

The Port Moresby CBD hosts three prestigious hotels overlooking Ela Beach.

Meanwhile, the slow progress of the ring road that will link Stanley Esplanade to the Ela Beach road has irked the city governor.

“Curtain Brothers were awarded the contract, but I have not signed (the agreement) because I am unhappy with the company’s slow progress.

“I am holding back and considering re-tendering the project.”
