Chamber supports Crocodile Prize Port Moresby

The PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum has once again supported Papua New Guinea’s national writing contest, the Crocodile Prize.

The competition's organising committee today welcomed the Chamber's sponsorship towards the ‘Essay and Journalism’ category which it has supported since 2010 when the competition was first established.

The Chamber's Executive Director, Greg Anderson said the Chamber's support demonstrates its commitment to supporting and encouraging aspiring PNG writers and essayists.

"The Crocodile Prize has helped many PNG writers since its establishment and with our ongoing support, we believe many more Papua New Guineans will have their work published and recognised," Anderson said.

Chairman of the Crocodile Prize Committee, Emmanuel Peni, while thanking the Chamber, said it is through organisations like the Chamber that the competition continues to grow each year.

“Writing critical essays and challenging the way we lead and live is healthy for any nation. Each country and culture have their own voice and own way of story-telling. Only Papua New Guineans can tell our stories in the way that gives meaning and inspiration to the reader," Peni said.

The Crocodile Prize competition has eight categories which are; Short Story, Illustrations, Book of the Year, Women in Writing, Essays and Journalism, Heritage, Writing for Children, and Emerging Young Writers. Winners will be announced in December at a ceremony to be hosted by the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby.
